I Love the 90s Friday: Janet Jackson

No matter what people have to say about Janet now, she was in top form in the 90s. I think her problem now is she is trying to do the same thing she has always done, and it just isn't working for her anymore. Artists need to evolve, especially when they have been in the industry this long. Anyhoo, I'm going to pretend that everything she did after the 90s never happened. She had a few nice songs, but overall I'm retreating back to the 90s for my favorite Janet Jackson jams.

You Want This

This video was so fun to me. I remember wishing I had a group of sassy friends like that. Also, why did I know that whole dance breakdown at the end? Why do I still know it? Lol @ MC Lyte chillin' in the car while the others danced. She was too cool for school.

Anytime, Anyplace

I still love this song. I love the jewel-tone colors in the video. Everything is smooth, steamy, and just nice.

Runaway

This song and video is so cute. I love the costumes, the dances, the lyrics are light and fun; it's just a nice, carefree song.

I Get So Lonely

This song reminds me of high school; cold winters and basketball seasons. I still like it, and she looked really cool in the video.

I ALMOST put that one on here but I didn't want to have too many videos. I still love that song too.

90's Janet can't be f'ed with. she was truly at the top of her craft. She need to just retire and do shows with her old songs. And have some kids with JD. lol. You should have put my song "Again" on there.

I wanted to put Again on here too; I had that on my IPOD until fairly recently. I think retiring and performing her hits is a GREAT idea. She would make mad bucks. If Toni Braxton and Celine Dion can do it so can she.

I feel ya! Janet has transcended through time, and is quite the "ish" as I would normally say. What amazes me most is that she has always tried her best to stay grounded and true to her inner self, or it so appears. She's a great performer... I still day dream about being one of her backup dancers :)

Those are some bangers right there. I liked that song On and On...

Vanessa: I agree, she does seem to stay true to herself and is a great performer. I feel she has transcended through time somewhat, but has not broken through unscathed.
Vixenchick: I should have done some honorable mentions because so many of her songs were hot! I only excluded Miss You Much because it came out in 1989...I almost added it anyway, lol.
Charles: I'm not familiar with a song called On and On by Janet...what album is it from?

Thats The Way Love Goes is one of my favorites. I can listen to it over and over and over and over and over.

I love the 90's. I wish music was still music. They are trying to pass of bad nursery rhymes as music these days. I now only listen to told school R & B and Hip Hop. I just cant take listening to this new stuff.

SF: I definitely feel you on the music tip...there are a few gems worth picking out, but it general most of the stuff (mainstream) out now goes over my head.
