Slumdog Millionaire

This is my favorite movie of 2008 and one of my favorite all-time movies. The protagonist, Jamal, is a contestant on India's Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and he has answered all the questions correctly up until the final question for the big money prize. Officials suspect him of cheating and have detained him and torture him to figure out how he cheated. Jamal and the officials go through how he came to know the answer to each question and this takes the viewers through his life. This is a wonderful film about love, life, fate, and timing and it is beautifully done (I may be a bit biased because I love Indian culture). It is mostly in English and subtitled for the non-English parts. It's out in the theaters now; consider seeing it! I think you will really enjoy it.
Here is the trailer:

I loved this movie, definitely my #1 for the year as well. A lot of people criticized it for being a "typical bollywood melodrama", but to me that isn't a bad thing at all. I thought the storytelling was brilliant, the way each question in the game not only allowed Jamal to tell a piece of his life story, but also to highlight a time period in recent Indian history and how real people survived through it. Great movie.

Also, one of my faves of 2008! I watched it last night, and it finished a few minutes after midnight!

I'm not addicted to the soundtrack.

Sandman: I hadn't read any reviews like that; most of the ones I read were positive; and I agree the way the story unfolded was just amazing.

LMN: Go see it; you won't regret it!

Vesper: Yeah, the soundtrack was a little lacking; I was surprised to hear the M.I.A. song on there. Visually though, it was such a treat!
