Bleak

This is exactly why I do not support the death penalty.

In hindsight, it is nothing short of amazing the crap that was thrown together and presented as evidence to convict a father of murdering his 3 daughters by way of arson with NO MOTIVE, SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE REFUTING JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING IN HIS TRIAL, and other gems of truth. The death penalty does not deter criminals from committing crimes. The death penalty costs the state more than keeping a prisoner alive. Oh, and innocent people are murdered in the name of justice. Why? How can this be? How can I believe in people as a whole with this ceiling above everything? What can be done?

I read the whole article and boy I was crying at the end.

Luckily the justice system has improved a lot since them. They hardly ever use circumstantial or witness evidence only. Everything has to be backed by forensic and lab. Still the innocent dead ones like willingham can't be brought back. May his soul RIP

Yeah, Texas is ridiculous with it. There's so many stories like this one. People don't care, in general. There are big anti-death penalty/moratorium movements in TX, but people just see them as left-wing. It's really not a partisan issue, innocent people die, and that's a proven fact.

Besides all the holes in the system, then and now, I'm just against the death penalty because I'm an atheist, so obviously I think it's a lame and almost laughable punishment for crimes that deserve retribution. Sticking someone in a cage with a life sentence is INFINITELY worse than making their brain stop. With a life sentence they actually have to BE there for the justice.

My two pennies.

InnyVinny: I know.

MW: True, they probably could not get away with the stuff they pulled now, but he was executed recently which means they could have righted the wrong and didn't. That's what is most discouraging. He began to have hope.

Sandman: This is exactly how I feel about the death penalty. Those who do heinous crimes should suffer, and living in the hell hole of a prison cell forced to think all day is much more sufficient punishment. Killing them does absolutely nothing.

its all about control. one human being know they have control over another's life...but i ask this, if something heinous happened to a family member of yours, what action would you want taken?

KB: Assuming I take the non-hood response, I would want them imprisoned for the rest of their natural life. I don't believe in an afterlife, so to me the death penalty is not ensuring that they suffer. I want them to wake everyday knowing they cannot live a normal life because of their actions.
